With whimsical beadwork and unusual metalwork pieces, Persephonie Studios offers a range of beautiful jewelry for all tastes. Here, we talk to the owner/designer, Cassandra Bazos about her work.
What are your favorite materials to work with?
My favourite materials to work with are Sterling silver and handpicked gemstones.
What is your favorite design, and is this your best seller?
Up until now all of my work has been one-of-a-kind so I don’t have on design that sells best per say but I do love the new cuttlefish castings that I just finished producing and I hope that they become my new best sellers soon.
How did you first get into jewelry art in general?
I have always had quite an artistic spirit even as a kid. I was always building bracelets and necklaces, etc out of beads and foliage (remember back when daisy chains were really in style in the school yard?). I don’t think that artistic side of my ever disappeared and I decided upon jewellery because I’ve always loved personal adornment and they way it makes people feel about themselves.
Can you tell us more about the themes that run through your jewelry?
As all of my previous work has been one-of-a-kind the one theme I have tried to tie all my pieces together with is sophistication. I have always prided myself on giving a sense of sophistication to my customers as it is a means to engage you with the pieces an artist creates. Colour is another big theme for me. In my opinion you can’t have too much colour in your life. Although not all of my pieces possess the “colour quality” I have desired for all my work they do have a sense of playfulness around them which could be labelled as “colourful” in another sense of the word.
What do you have planned for future collections?
As I am in the process of re-branding I will coming out with a leaf collection in homage to my new logo. It’s going to be fresh, fun, easy to wear and sophisticated at the same time. There will be gemstones and a lot of silver.
If you could have any jewelry super-power to help you with your jewelry what would it be? (Perhaps flame throwing hands to fire your pieces quickly? Mind reading for your customers? Extra arms? :)
Can I choose all of the above? J They would all definitely come in handy at some point in time. But seriously, if I had the choice to choose any jewellery super power it would be extra arms. I’m always working 2 steps a head of myself so extra arms would allow me to get more work done in the same amount of time. It would allow me to make more people happy about the personal adornment choices.
